My degree is in Education and I taught elementary school before having my children. After my eldest was born, I joined a Mother’s Support group. A year later, the leader of that group was going to stop offering this service. A friend and I trained with her and started offering the groups in our community.
We also taught an infant care class at a local health facility. I realized then that I enjoyed teaching adults and especially liked offering support to people during these life changes. More than 500 people participated in the groups. We also developed a training program for people to offer groups in their area. This spread around the United States and internationally.
In 1997 I learned about Reiki and took my first-degree class. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical, at first, but then realized that my touch was different. After practicing daily, I was able to recognize changes in my life. My Reiki Master lived in a different state and I was able to organize many classes for her in my area and attend all of the classes.
After several years, Reiki called me to train to be a Master. In 2007 I was initiated. I always enjoy that I am a Jewish woman, initiated by a Unity Minister in a Zen Garden at a Catholic retreat center!
I have offered monthly Reiki Exchanges that include people from a variety of Reiki traditions. I also maintain a very active Reiki Support Line offering distant treatment. Our students have participated in volunteer opportunities to offer Reiki treatment in local hospitals and a woman’s prison.
The best thing that has happened is that we have built a wonderful Reiki community…a local Reiki Home, perhaps?
