On December 11, 1980, Hawayo Takata made her transition from this physical world to what lies beyond. Reiki, the practice to which she dedicated her life has continued to grow and evolve during these past 40 years. In the 1980s, her students and their students shared Reiki around the world, spawning some new styles of practice and creating disputes over who had received her full teachings. In the 1990s, Reiki practitioners traveled to Japan seeking to discover what remained of the practice Takata learned in the 1930s. They also took to the internet, forming new types of communities and ways of sharing information. The twenty-first century provided new opportunities and challenges to honor and reflect upon Takata’s legacy, including the diverse community that is Reiki Home.
Join our Circle of Scholars for a discussion of the state of Reiki, forty years after Hawayo Takata’s transition. During this special two-hour webcast, we will consider how we as Reiki students arrived in this place and where Reiki may be leading the global community.
