Circle of Scholars – Exploring the “Laying On Of Hands”

In the December CoS, Jojan and Dori will present on the topic: Exploring the ‘laying on of hands.’ As we know, in some communities, December is the month of Christmas and the story of Jesus Christ. The narrative of his life includes stories of him healing people in some instances by the laying on of hands. Today and historically, in Christian Churches, the laying on of hands is used as a symbolic and formal method of invoking the Holy Spirit primarily during baptisms and confirmations, healing services, blessings, and ordination of priests. We also know that Takata introduced some Christian terminology in her presentation of Reiki practice, therefore some practitioners started thinking that there is a connection between the laying on of hands as known in the narrative of Jesus and as performed in Reiki.
