When Hawayo Takata was trained in Usui Reiki Ryôhô by Chûjirô Hayashi in Japan in the 1930s, she learned a form of meditation performed with the palms of the hands pressed together in front of the chest, a position known in Japanese as gasso. During the meditation, the practitioner turns their attention inward, particularly to the lower abdomen, called the hara or tanden in Japanese. She taught this meditation to many of her students in the 1970s, but after her death, many Reiki lineages did not receive this teaching. In this 2-hour workshop, Dr. Justin B. Stein (PhD, University of Toronto) will give first a lecture on the form and history of this meditation practice, including some possible influences on Mikao Usui. There will be time for question and answer, and time to practice the meditation as a group. All events are listed in PDT. For your own time zone, please check the World Clock Converter.
