What do the symbols point out within the system of Reiki:

In the traditional Japanese system of Reiki there are 4 symbols, 3 in Okuden Reiki II and 1 in Shinpiden Reiki III. Why are they there and how do you work with them? No matter what we do or practice with we always have to know why we use it and how to use it, if we understand that in the right way we will get so much more out of these practices.
