Every Reiki story is magical and holds unexpected gifts. \nNovember’s Guest:  Ifetayo White is a 76 year old Reiki Teacher who is the founder and director of The Lowcountry School of Reiki on St. Helena Island\, SC.   A parent\, grandparent\, friend and professional\, she continues to devote herself to her own mental\, emotional\, physical and spiritual growth and that of others. fetayo began receiving Reiki in her hometown\, Washington DC\, in the early 80s and was attuned Reiki I in 1995.  Having  taught Reiki since 1999 she was again attuned Usui Shinpiden Level III by Frans Stiene of the International House of Reiki in Feb 2020. This work and her training as a massage therapist\, Jin Shin Do acupressure practitioner\, and 10 years experience working in mental health has created the container for her practice in somatic healing of traumatic memory stored in the body. As a long-time meditation practitioner and instructor\, Ifetayo has led countless meditation sessions for children and adults in person\, at events\, during virtual workshops\, and on Insight Timer.  Her ReTurning hOMe Transformational Mentoring Program has provided a bridge for individuals to explore the trauma and fears that  prevent them from living their lives to the fullest.\nFor Ifetayo Reiki is the foundation of everything she does in her life and she is devoted to the daily practices of living Reiki. DESCRIPTION:In this trilogy of webcasts\, Jojan presented last month the dimension of mysticism and mystical experiences of Reiki practice.\nIn the September and October webcasts\, we take a next step and present “The dimension of extra sensory perception\,” a chapter from our recent book Reiki Practice and Surrender. Overall\, this book discusses Reiki from the perspective of the five senses and this topic considers the “sixth sense\,” what is often left at the margins of science and daily discussion. \nWe use the terms paranormal and mystical to account for experiences that do not easily fit into what might be called a “this world reality” nor can be easily psychologized. In this discussion we present experiences that have been passed down in Reiki’s history and use them as a framework to review contemporary practitioner’s experiences that touch on the paranormal\, where practitioners may have experienced that their finger pointing to the sky was touched by Mystery. \nJoin us as we bring to light experiences that are often left in the dark.

SUMMARY:CoS – Mystical Experiences in Reiki - Exploring Nameless Experiences
DESCRIPTION:Reiki aims for an improvement of holistic well-being in whatever way defined. The practice\, however\, may bring extraordinary encounters sometimes labelled as mystical experiences. This belongs to the category of experiences where there is no mental concept involved but only the experience. A unique perception that according to some gives joy\, leads to imperturbable peace\, to recognition that lies in every flower or every particle of dust\, and to unconditional liberation from the human condition. Enlightenment\, the attainment of Tao\, union with divinity are merely lofty sounding designations. The experience is nameless\, perceptible as light\, but completely beyond description and takes place before it can be given words. \nBased on his analysis of such experiences\, the Dutch scholar Prof. Dr. Kees Waaijman suggests ten recognizable characteristics of which some may occur in a mystical experience.\nIn 2010\, Jojan Jonker created a study on such experiences with a specific group of Reiki Masters\, looking for these characteristics. \nIn this webcast\, the outcome will be presented again and related to the more recent work from Dori Beeler and Jojan Jonker referring to external authority. During the meditation\, the practitioner turns their attention inward\, particularly to the lower abdomen\, called the hara or tanden in Japanese. She taught this meditation to many of her students in the 1970s\, but after her death\, many Reiki lineages did not receive this teaching. In this 2-hour workshop\, Dr. Justin B. Stein (PhD\, University of Toronto) will give first a lecture on the form and history of this meditation practice\, including some possible influences on Mikao Usui. DESCRIPTION:One hundred years ago a Japanese man called Usui Mikao taught a spiritual therapy to thousands. Usui’s students\, as well as the practice he taught them – were Japanese. Steeped in the Japanese tradition\, folklore\, and way of life\, things resonated well with Reiki’s Japanese practitioners. Yet across the globe\, isn’t it a bit surprising that Usui sensei’s system would match so well with those whom the Japanese tradition and folklore are not the paradigm?\nIn this webcast we will explore how the local paradigms baked into Usui Reiki Ryoho were globalized\, reshaped\, and fitted into local requirements. We will ask how is it possible that we were trained in ‘The Reiki tradition’\, yet it differs so much from the trainings our fellow Reiki practitioners have undergone. What is the status of tradition in Reiki; when and where was it created and by whom? We will discuss how local leadership and authority are created and recreated.
